Earth Day 2022: celebrations in Kitui County, Kenya

We celebrated Earth Day 2022 by planting trees in Yumbisye Primary School, Kitui County, Kenya.

We were joined by folks from One Tree Planted, local community members, teachers, pupils and officials from the local county government and forestry department.

Together we planted 400 Trees!

Trees planted included Grevillea robusta, Gmelina arborea, Morus alba, Senna siamea and Neem.

Here at ITF, every day is Earth Day. So, this event not only focused on tree planting but also on raising awareness on the importance of protecting our planet and sustainably managing natural resources.

We had a great time teaching students about the importance of protecting our environment.

Alongside tree planting and conservation awareness activities, we were also delighted to use this platform to celebrate the impact of our ‘Climate Change Adaptation in Kitui County’ project.

In partnership with Kitui Development Centre and thanks to funding from One Tree Planted, we’re planting trees in local farms, schools and churches.

We’re also establishing community tree nurseries and empowering women to become leaders in natural resource management through training on Gender Integration and Natural Resource Management.

We are grateful to One Tree Planted for sponsoring this event.
