Our approach
Some people are just waking up to the vital importance of trees to life on earth. But at ITF we know that trees are precious. And when they are planted properly, they transform landscapes and lives. ITF exists to plant, protect and promote the silent work that trees do to help us all. It’s an endeavour we embarked on over 100 years ago. And it is even more vital today than it was a century ago.
With a long history of growing trees and restoring forests, especially in Africa and the UK, we know that the relationship between people and forests is vital. That’s why we’re a community-led organisation.
But our work has always been about more than planting individual trees. It is about empowering communities to protect and benefit from the landscapes around them. It’s about stopping threatened species from going extinct and reversing biodiversity loss. It’s about gender justice and giving people the tools to transform their lives.
