Revitalising Madrid's landscapes in the aftermath of the 2019 wildfires

For 100 years, the International Tree Foundation has been dedicated to supporting communities in their efforts to restore degraded landscapes. Our recent planting event in Madrid is a testament to our commitment to creating positive change.

With the help of our partners at The UPS Foundation and 35 dedicated volunteers, we successfully planted 500 trees out of 5,000 in Cadalso de los Vidrios, Madrid – an area that was devastated by wildfires in the summer of 2019.

This project is part of a larger effort to plant trees that combat the effects of climate change and deliver for nature and people. Our goal is to restore 252 hectares of degraded landscapes, with 150 hectares already in progress.

Beyond the anticipated environmental benefits such as reduced CO2 emissions, decreased soil erosion, and increased biodiversity, the project is also creating sustainable job opportunities by reintegrating planters back into the workforce.

We are incredibly proud to be a part of this vital project and can't wait to see the positive impact it will have on the environment and local communities for many years to come.
