Plant trees to restore Bwindi Forest
Double your impact for people and the planet this Christmas
In the heart of south-western Uganda, lies Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. A lush green sanctuary with over 160 tree species and nearly half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas.
For generations, the Batwa people called this forest home. They knew the forest inside and out. And used its resources wisely to sustain themselves and their families.
But in the 1990s, their world was shattered. Evicted from their ancestral home, the Batwa found themselves displaced, stripped of their identity and plunged into poverty.
Bwindi Forest is also under threat. Invasive plant species, agricultural encroachment and illegal logging are all destroying the delicate balance of life that the Batwa once helped to maintain.
Your donation this Christmas will help fund a new project designed by the Batwa, to plant trees and transform their community.
There’s no doubt that trees have the power to transform landscapes and lives. And with your support, the Batwa will harness their ancestral knowledge and plant 7,500 native trees in local pocket forests.
These trees will provide a sustainable source of nutritious food and income for the Batwa, helping them break the ongoing cycle of poverty. And they'll act as a protective barrier, shielding Bwindi Impenetrable Forest from further degradation.
Please join our campaign and help bring the Batwa’s vision to life.
By supporting this project, you’ll not only be helping the Batwa with the seeds, tools and resources they need to plant trees and create thriving livelihoods.
You’ll also be investing in a healthier, more resilient planet by ensuring that Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and its extraordinary biodiversity, flourishes for future generations to come.
One donation, twice the impact!
We’re taking part in this year’s Christmas Big Give Challenge. And for one week only, every donation, no matter the size, will be generously doubled by our friends at the Big Give. Donate to our campaign between 28th November and 5th December and make twice the impact for people and the planet this Christmas.
