Plant trees and transform lives this Christmas

Double your impact for people and the planet this Christmas

From their leaves to their roots, trees are vital for life on earth.

They sustain thousands of diverse plants and animals. They provide essential medicines and food. And they mitigate against extreme environmental events.

And yet globally, our forests are being destroyed and our trees are being cut down at an alarming rate, devastating the lives of millions of people who rely on them. But with your help we can double our impact for people and the planet this Christmas.

Meet Redempta, community tree planting champion

Here at the International Tree Foundation, we know that when communities are put at the heart of tree planting, trees and forests are protected and lives are transformed. Your donation today can make this happen for the communities we work with, like Redempta’s.

Redempta Mutisia is an ITF partner and the chair of a women-led tree planting organisation in Nakuru County, which is about three hours north of Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

Her local forest has suffered terrible deforestation due to human activity. But Redempta and her organisation are working hard to restore it.

We identify degraded places or parts of forests and work with the community to restore them back to their former glory,” says Redempta.

“We’ve planted 81,500 indigenous tree species in the upper side of the forest.

We’ve trained local community members to grow trees and they’ve already set up their own nurseries.”

This project with Redempta is not only about planting trees, we’re also working closely with the local community to help people set up sustainable livelihoods.

We are the ones who plant trees in the forest that bring rains and also help us to survive. When we plant trees, we mix them with vegetables, and we sell these vegetables so that we can feed and clothe our children.

Holistic tree planting

Here at ITF, we don’t just plant trees! We help communities to address some of the root causes of deforestation and involve as many people as possible in restoration efforts. And our project in Nakuru County is no exception.

We’re working to inspire a generation of young people that embrace matters of land restoration and environmental conservation,” shares Redempta. Together, we have already planted 20,000 trees with 10 schools in the area!"

Will you support community tree planters like Redempta in protecting our planet’s trees and forests with a donation this festive season?

Nakuru County is just one of the many places our community partners are planting trees and restoring forests and ecosystems.

Your gift this Christmas will help ensure that the trees we plant will thrive for generations and that more landscapes and lives are transformed through community-led tree planting.

Double your donation!
