Collecting acorns

Last week the UK team went out into Oxford to pick some acorns for an exciting little project we have going on.

The team went to the local park for lunch with a picnic and collected 1,448 acorns from a variety of grand old oak trees. We want the acorns to be from Oxford because we will be planting them in Oxford and this is important for biosecurity.

It was wonderful spending time among the trees. We had a lovely picnic and collected acorns for our tree nursery. It was a great team building activity and we was lucky with the weather!

All of the acorns have been planted in our brand-new community tree nursery in Oxford and we will be looking after the seedlings for at least the next two years till they are mature enough to be planted out.

The oak trees will be distributed to community projects around Oxford and will give local people a chance to plant their trees and watch them grow.

Availability of these trees will allow people to engage with ITF in novel ways.
