ITF attends the Royal Cornwall Show

On Thursday 7th June, Paul Laird, ITF Programmes Manager, and his daughter Miriam represented ITF at the Royal Cornwall Show.

ITF took part in the Prince’s Countryside Parade showcasing all the countryside charities that Prince Charles supports. The event, organised as a celebration of Prince Charles’ 70th birthday, was a great success, finishing just before clouds turned to rain.

A meeting of friends old and new!

The Prince and Duchess of Cornwall attended the parade in the main show ground and met the participants. ITF paraded amongst congenial neighbours, representing the wide range of initiatives the Prince supports towards the sustainability and diversification of farming and land use. There were organisations for allotments, organic farming and wildlife conservation as well as for trees – and there were lots of sheep!

Visiting other stands around the show we met old friends of ITF in the forestry section, people with a long track record of supporting tree planting and forest conservation in the South-West. Other visitors were interested to hear about ITF’s work with communities in African countries who are working to conserve and restore forests and to integrate trees on farms, recognizing the similarities, as well as contrasts, with the situation in the UK.

Around 100,000 people are expected to visit the show over the three days. ITF will have a stand at the Prince’s Countryside Pavilion today and we hope to meet many more friends and supporters of tree planting and forest conservation.
