Beyond Offsets - an alternative approach

Extensive debates have been taking place in recent months on the use of carbon credits for funding nature projects for the purpose of compensatory green claims, including ‘offsetting’.

However, far less attention has been paid to the question of whether there are alternative financing vehicles to carbon credits – which might better serve nature conservation and restoration projects.

Following discussion at the Beyond Offsets roundtable at the University of Oxford, 21st June 2024, James Whitehead, CEO at International Tree Foundation, is calling for the SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) to endorse transformational contribution approaches to supporting climate and nature projects.

Representatives from Tree Sisters, Reforestation, Fairventures Worldwide and Nature’s Nectar Ltd all signed to show their support.
