Global Climate Strike – the largest environmental protest in history
Programmes Manager for Kenya, Teresa Gitonga, was LIVE on TV! Watch her talking about our conservation work in Kenya.
Speaking for the trees this month, Teresa says:
“The importance of our environment cannot be underestimated. We depend on our environment including forests for our survival, from the air we breathe to the wood we use. Besides providing habitats for animals and livelihoods for humans, forests also offer watershed protection, prevent soil erosion and mitigate climate change.
Yet, despite our dependence on forests, we are still allowing them to disappear.
The current Environmental issues in Kenya include; deforestation, soil erosion, desertification, water shortage and degraded water quality, flooding, poaching, and domestic and industrial pollution. We have to reduce deforestation and restore damaged forests, we need more trees and healthy forests if we are to address climate change and create a habitable country for the current and future generations.”
