SAFE was founded in 2010 as a Community Based Organization in Soroti. In 2012 it was registered with the National NGO Board as a Non Governmental Organization (Reg. no. 9498) operating in Uganda.
SAFE currently has 35 paid up members (21 Male and 14 female). It is governed by an executive committee comprising of a pastor, 4 social workers, 3 medical persons, a civil engineer, environmental scientist, accountant and stenographer who are elected during the annual general meetings.
Aims and objectives
SAFE aims at:
- boosting household incomes
- conserving and promoting sustainable use of biodiversity
- Enhancing peace and good governance
- increasing access to quality basic education
- working with local churches to fulfill the great commission (Evangelism)
SAFE is currently involved in (i) Awareness creation on environment conservation, (ii) Tree Planting, (iii) Vocational skills training (garment cutting, tailoring training, welding, driving, and hair dressing training programs) and (iv) Christian crusades and educative film shows in schools and communities.
Achievements over the last few years
In the last 12 months SAFE has:
(i) Reached 5437 pupils and 857 adults with environment conservation and tree planting awareness message
(ii) (ii) trained 10 teachers on tree nurseries and tree planting
(iii) (iii) established 10 green clubs in 10 primary schools
(iv) (iv) planted 9,200 trees in 10 primary schools and community lands in Amuria district and
(v) (v) strengthened partnership with Amuria district local government
