Friends of Environment for Development (FED) was founded in 2009 and by rural youth who were motivated by the dire need for concerted efforts to fight poverty and conserve the environment at the same time in Northern Uganda.
FED envisions a self sustaining and empowered community that lives in harmony with nature’s resources for sustainable development.
FED’s goal is to help create self sustaining communities and contribute towards poverty eradication in Uganda through provision of integrated technical and material support, quality training and advisory services in and economically empowered broad areas of, environmental conservation, sustainable agriculture, agro-forestry, income generation, vocational skills and advocacy and networking.
FED with support from the ITF is currently implementing a Community Tree Planting Initiative Project in Agali Subcounty, Erute South County, Lira District in which households are trained and provided with tree seedlings to plant for wealth and the environment and in addition, the communities are also sensitized on climate smart agriculture/trees on farm, soil conservation and management and HIV/AIDS.
The project has so far distributed over 200.000 tree seedlings to over 500 households, 25 churches and 5 schools in Agali subcounty since 2011.
FED is registered as a legal not-for-profit NGO (company limited by guarantee and not having share capital) with the ministry of internal Affairs of Uganda under registration certificate No.124535.
