“It is possible to transform our relationship
with nature on a global scale quickly”
COVID-19 is a tragedy. People are losing loved ones, friends and colleagues, governments across the world are taking previously intolerable actions, many businesses will never recover, and too many organisations may have to fold this year. Though no-one can tell how much will change, one thing is certain: what was thought practically impossible a few weeks ago is now possible.
When the recovery begins, and attention turns once again to our relationship with the natural world around us, we must think again about what is possible. It is possible to transform our relationship with nature on a global scale quickly, and create a sustainable way of living. That we can, if we choose to, is now proven.
Most of our partners are still growing thousands upon thousands of saplings, planting trees across Africa, and restoring forests today. Doubtless, some of our programmes will be put on hold. We will continue to support our community of people planting trees.
It may help our wellbeing, to take some time each day to watch the trees and nature around you. There’s plenty of evidence now, which shows that taking time with nature nourishes your mind and body.
Feel free to get in touch with your thoughts or photos about the trees around you with #ITFNearerToNature. By sharing these photos we may offer some comfort to one another. Later, we’ll bring the photos our community shares into a record of the trees which helped us through these times.
Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other. A new possible can emerge.
