Zanzibar Association for Climate Change Resilience (ZACCR) was founded in November 2012. ZACCR is a National NGO based in Zanzibar, Tanzania dealing with improving the capacity of local communities in mitigating and adapting to the impacts of climate change. ZACCR’s vision is “to become a premier NGO that strengthens Zanzibar’s local community by being resilient to climate change impacts”.
Aim and Objectives
The aim of ZACCR is to act as a special centre that deals with all issues relating to climate change resilience and environmental conservation.
The objectives of ZACCR include helping the local community to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change, to raise awareness among local communities and other institutions on climate change issues through participatory methodologies, to participate in national and international conferences, workshops, seminars and forums concerning climate change and to conduct research on climate change issues and environmental conservation.
Recent achievements include planting 15,000 mangrove trees, providing training to 43 village conservation committees on sustainable forest management and training on improved cooking stoves to 75 local communities members.
