Rwenzori Environment Conservation Project

Rwenzori Environment Conservation Project, Inc. (RWECOP) is a registered non governmental and non profit making conservation organisation that operates in western Uganda.  RWECOP was founded in 2005 by community members who saw a need to positively contribute to environmental conservation and management due to the current challenges facing the environment, such as climate change, threatened biodiversity among others.

OBJECTIVES OF RWECOP:

a) To raise public awareness on the relevance of environment conservation and management.

b) To empower communities with technical expertise and trainings on natural environment conservation and issues of bio diversity.

c) To carry out research on environment related issues.

d) To protect water sources such as wetlands resources, rivers, springs, boreholes, lakes and conservation of other natural resources.

e) To promote tree planting, agro forestry and natural resource conservation to reverse the environmental degradation and to fight against climatic change.

f) To conserve wildlife and biodiversity.

g) To Promote and enhance waste management.

AREAS OF FOCUS

a) Rising public awareness on environmental issues .

b) Empowering communities with technical expertise and trainings on environment conservation and issues of bio diversity

c) Carrying out research on environment issues

d) Protection of water source such as wetlands resources, rivers, springs, boreholes, lakes and conservation of other natural resources.

e) Promoting tree planting, agro forestry and natural resource conservation to reverse the environmental degradation and to provide the rural and urban people with fuel wood.

f) Clean energy technology- introducing energy saving stoves which can save at least 75% of the fuel wood compared to the three stone method which consumes a lot of fuel wood.

g) Promoting and enhancing solid and liquid waste management.
