Sub-Saharan Africa

Africa is estimated to suffer from the greatest level of deforestation in the world. Studies suggest that sub-Saharan Africa is one of the most vulnerable areas to climate change which is expected to exacerbate desertification (land degradation) and increase the frequency and intensity of droughts. These largely human-made impacts are expected to inflict the most harm to the world’s poorest, the least prepared, and the least responsible for causing them.  Other factors contributing to the degradation of land in sub-Saharan Africa include poverty, rapid population growth, and inadequate progress in increasing crop yields.
