Become a Trustee

Founded in Kenya in 1922, International Tree Foundation (ITF) has worked for over 90 years to improve both the natural environment and people’s lives through community-led tree planting, agroforestry, forest conservation, advocacy and education programmes. We are currently working on an ambitious period of expansion, primarily in Africa and the UK, and we are looking for new Trustees with time, relevant experience, drive and enthusiasm to help guide this process through their skills and knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • Forestry, agroforestry and agroecology
  • Environmental conservation and education
  • Sustainable development
  • Community development and capacity building in African countries
  • Income generation
  • Diversity

We particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic people, people from the African diaspora and women who are currently underrepresented on our Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees usually meets four times per year in central London or Oxford, with occasional sub-committee meetings and teleconferencing.  This is a voluntary role, but out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed. Trustees are elected by our members initially for a three year term.

The closing date for completed applications is Monday 3rd April 2017 at midnight GMT.

We are planning to hold interviews for shortlisted candidates on April 26th 2017.

Volunteer Programmes Support Assistant

This is a great opportunity to volunteer with ITF at our offices in Summertown, Oxford. It offers the chance to learn new skills, gain confidence and experience working in a dynamic office environment while contributing to our vital work.

Working closely with the Programmes Manager you will have the chance to learn and contribute to all areas of our programmes management.  This involves monitoring and supporting forestry projects in Africa and the UK from our office in Oxford. This is a valuable opportunity for someone wanting to gain experience in the not-for-profit conservation and development sector.  If you are looking for ways to gain employability, this role will give you the chance to learn new skills whilst building confidence and contributing to our vital work.

We are looking for an excellent communicator with a dynamic and well-organised approach. If you are motivated, enthusiastic and especially if you have experience with environmental projects and an interest in environmental and international development issues, then this is the perfect role for you.

Volunteer Communications Assistant

WORKING closely with the Communications and Fundraising Officer, you will have the chance to learn and contribute to all areas of our communications activity including content for our website and social media. You may also be able to contribute to our bimonthly E-newsletter and annual Trees Journal.

This is a chance to work as a volunteer at ITF’s office in Summertown, Oxford – and a valuable opportunity for someone wanting to gain experience in the not-for-profit conservation and development sector.  If you are looking for ways to gain employability, this is a great way to learn new skills whilst building confidence and contributing to our vital work.

Volunteer Fundraising Assistant

We are looking for a self-starter with a “can do” attitude to work as a voluntary fundraiser with our team. You will have the chance to learn and contribute to all areas of our fundraising activity, managing your own projects and supporting others.

At the International Tree Foundation we plant, protect and promote trees and forests in the UK and internationally by working with communities to establish sustainable community forestry projects that benefit the environment, individuals and communities.
