The Red Rose Forest

SITE NOW FULL -  Red Rose Forest is the second largest and probably the most diverse of the 12 Community Forests in England. It covers 292 square miles and takes in the districts of Manchester, Salford, Bolton, Bury, Trafford and Wigan. Red Rose Forest is an initiative to create well-wooded landscapes, to provide a green and attractive setting for new and existing land uses. The forest initiatives will plant more than 11 million trees over the next four decades. Most of the trees planted will be familiar broadleaves, such as oak, ash, birch and alder. The areas of woodland will vary greatly in size and will be linked by hedgerows, trees in parks and gardens, around factories and businesses, and alongside roads, railways and canals. This will create opportunities for leisure, sport and recreation, education and habitat for wildlife.
