Fruit trees help to reduce risk of land erosion in Philippines

22/06/2009

Our Partner PEOPLE (Partnership for the Ecological Orientation for the Preservation of Leyte’s Environment) are rehabilitating 10 hectares of denuded lands covering 2 upland villages in Ormoc, Leyte, Philippines.

PEOPLE have now planted 6000 native forest trees and 1000 fruit trees which will provide additional income for two upland farming communities in Leyte. A variety of tree species have been selected to produce the effect of a closed canopy which and to assist in natural regeneration of forest.
