Parkwood Springs, Burngreave, Sheffield

Burngreave is located just north of Sheffield City Centre (centred on OS grid ref SK360895).  Owned by Sheffield City Council, it is 141ha of green space physically and visually in the “heart of the city” of Sheffield being less then 1.5km from the city centre. The planting of trees as part of the Family Tree Scheme and other local initiatives will further enhance the valuable ecology of the site, whilst reclaiming unused areas to recreational green space.

The site is home to a ski village and artificial slopes. It boasts a rich mosaic of woodland, heathland, acid grasslands, sssi's, allotments, cemetery, sports fields, nature reserves and wetlands. This unique naturalistic backdrop is visible from much of Sheffield and out into the Peak District, providing a visual link from the countryside into the city and vice versa. There is an active landfill occupying part of the site that will continue its phased operations until 2018.
