Brierley Forest Park, Nottinghamshire

Brierley Forest Park, Greenwood, Nottinghamshire’s Community Forest

Brierley Forest Park is Ashfields largest addition to Greenwood, Nottinghamshires Community Forest. Altogether it covers some 250 acres and is a flagship site for the Greenwood.

The master plan for the site has been designed on behalf of Ashfield District Council by the Ashfield and Mansfield Groundwork Trust, with the help and advice of local environmentalists, including Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, Forestry Authorities and local residents.

Within Brierley Forest Park, planting in the first FTS site, The Spinney, was completed in the 2002/3 season. It is an area of mature trees which has been under-planted with young trees. The location of the new site has been chosen to provide improved access for people with limited mobility and is located within twenty-five metres of the Brierley Forest Park Visitor Centre. Access is via a crushed stone footpath with a gentle incline suitable for wheelchairs. Adjacent to the site is a small picnic area with rustic seating, providing panoramic views over the park to the east and a good view of the Family Tree Scheme site to the west.
