Homeopathy Wood
Homeopathy and Trees, a natural combination
Creating new woodland for recreation, learning and environment
The International Tree Foundation and the Homeopathy Action Trust are working together with Northamptonshire County Council to create a new woodland. The Homeopathy Wood at Sywell Country Park in Northamptonshire is almost two years old and now has 850 trees planted in it!. All the trees have been individually sponsored with species such as oak, beech, yew, hawthorn, hornbeam – all used in homeopathy. The Country Park is open to the public and has a large visitor’s centre.
How is the woodland created?
The trees you donate will be planted in the subsequent planting season and a proportion of your donation will be set aside for maintenance of the trees over their lifetime. In each planting season a mixture of trees will be planted. Some trees need other, established seedlings in place to protect them, while others need a period of growth in open ground before their neighbours ‘move in’. As we wish to plant healthy and vigorous woods, we will leave the choice of trees in any given season to the professionals. The woodland has an organic management policy.
Working Together
Many medicines and other treatments come from trees, so the partnership between ITF and the Homeopathy Action Trust is a natural one. Working together we can create new woodland and allow you to celebrate and commemorate special people and important moments. Whether you wish to remember a much loved pet, to celebrate an important event or simply to give thanks for the bounty of nature that provides so much of homeopathy’s success you can contribute to the Homeopathy Wood and know that your donation will be used to plant and care for trees.
Homeopathy Action Trust says,
“We are delighted to be working with the ITF on this long term project. The symbolism of putting down roots and creating new shoots to mark our merger, is a very potent one. The chosen site (in the heart of the country) offers an open, very pleasant and tranquil aspect around a reservoir, which attracts many forms of wildlife. Visitors enjoy opportunities for walking, picnics, bird-watching, and a programme of activities throughout the year. You will be contributing to the environment when you plant a tree, and you will be able to have a day out and visit the wood you helped to create. This planting scheme is the beginning of an association which we intend will grow too. The ITF and ourselves wish to work together to raise awareness about our respective aims, including possible shared events to benefit our memberships. We do hope you will be able to support us.”
Homeopathic Trees
Trees for the new woodland include ash, beech, hawthorn, horse chestnut, oak, yew, willow and witch hazel. Specimen trees for planting in the arboretum include white cedar, Scots pine, monkey puzzle, gingko biloba and black spruce. As we define new species for planting we will update this list. As the trees mature they will be harvested to make homeopathic remedies – the harvesting uses only a very small part of the tree – and student homeopaths will be able to create remedies from the trees they harvest, thus adding to their understanding and appreciation of the natural origin of homeopathic treatments.
